Joomla 4 reached its end of life on 14 October 2025: on that day its security updates ended. The last version was Joomla 4.4.14 of 30 September 2025. Since then every newly discovered hole stays open – in Joomla itself and in extensions that are no longer maintained for Joomla 4.

Joomla 5 from €200, Joomla 4 about €400 net: your way to Joomla 6.
We prepare the switch on a copy and only go live after your approval. For Joomla 3 and older we estimate the effort individually.
See Joomla update and migrationWhat Joomla 4 stood for
- A new backend (Atum) and a new frontend template (Cassiopeia), both on Bootstrap 5.
- Workflows for approvals, mail templates and a programming interface (web services).
- At least PHP 7.2.5 – a big step after Joomla 3.
More in the post Review: Joomla 4.
What that means today
Your website keeps running, but without protection. And time is working against it: new extensions and new versions of existing extensions appear for Joomla 5 and 6, no longer for Joomla 4.
The way to Joomla 6
Unlike with Joomla 3, the way leads through Joomla's own update in the backend: first to the last version 4.4.14, then to Joomla 5.4 and from there to Joomla 6. Before every step, Joomla's pre-update check shows which extensions do not fit yet. Joomla 6 needs at least PHP 8.3, 8.4 is recommended (Joomla manual).
Our advice: run the update on a copy, not on the live website. Then it stays online if an extension or the template does not play along.
Rather not do the update yourself? We take care of it, from the first estimate to the switch, and usually answer on the next working day.
