Media Upload

Upload images and files by drag and drop right in the article, sort, describe and protect them.

  • Upload – Drag several files onto the field; they are stored for good on saving.
  • Images – Resized and converted when saved (e.g. to WebP), cropped if you like.
  • Care – Sort, rename, add title, alt text and description per file.
  • Website – As links, images or an own layout, in YOOtheme Pro's page builder too.
  • Protection – Optionally protected: files only for people who may see the article.

Download

Files to download, protected against unauthorised access, with hits and versions – very large files too.

  • Protected – Downloads only through an address that checks Joomla's rules.
  • Versions – A new version replaces the old one, the link stays, older ones are kept.
  • Hits – Downloads per file and version; search engines and previews do not count.
  • Large files – Upload in parts, beyond the server's limit too; continues after a break.
  • Website – A list with title, kind, size and date; others are led to the login.

Builder

One field with its own subfields – FAQ, team, contact, dates or your own, once or as a list.

  • Put the subfields together here – Label, type, required and help text per subfield, with ready templates.
  • Joomla's own inputs – Text, editor, number, date, link, image, list and more – with Joomla's checks.
  • Cards or table – In the item as cards or a table; add, remove and sort entries.

How you work with it.

Step 1

Choose a field type

The start page shows every field type as a tile. One click explains what it can do and lists your existing fields.

Step 2

Answer a few questions

“New field” asks step by step where the field appears and what it is called – with a live preview of your answers.

Step 3

Create the field

The summary lists all answers. Only “Create field” creates the field in Joomla; further settings live in the field editor.

Step 4

Fill it in the article

Editors fill in the field in the familiar Joomla editor: upload, sort and caption files – under Joomla's permissions.

Protected files

  • Optionally for authorised users only, rights checked on every access
  • Same rights as the article, plus an access level per field or file
  • Guests are taken to the login and brought back afterwards
  • Storage in a locked folder of the website or fully outside it

Download – files

  • Two levels: simple links from Joomla's media or protected

Do we need YOOtheme Pro?

No. Media Upload, Download and Builder work with Joomla alone. With YOOtheme Pro, uploaded files are also available as a source for dynamic content; the YOOtheme blocks are meant for YOOtheme Pro, and without it Joomla shows a simple version.

Which files can be uploaded?

Media Upload accepts JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF, and if you wish SVG (cleaned) and PDF. Download only allows permitted file types whose content matches the extension; executable files are never accepted.

Who can create and fill in fields?

The newtastic Custom Fields interface is reserved for Super Users. Values in an article are edited by anyone who has the “Edit Custom Field Value” permission in Joomla.

What happens when it is uninstalled?

Fields, values and uploaded files stay in Joomla – but without the extension Joomla can show these fields neither in the editor nor on the website, and protected downloads can no longer be reached. So replace fields in use beforehand with Joomla's own field types, such as the media field or subform; without fields in use, uninstalling has no consequences. As long as download files or protected images exist, Custom Fields refuses to be uninstalled and says why – so that no links lead nowhere.
