Joomla 5 is in its last phase: on 13 October 2026, Joomla 5.4.10 was the last version with bug fixes. Since then Joomla 5 only receives security updates, until 12 October 2027. After that every new hole stays open. Here you can read what applies until when and how to get to Joomla 6 in good time.

Joomla 5 from €200, Joomla 4 about €400 net: your way to Joomla 6.
We prepare the switch on a copy and only go live after your approval. For Joomla 3 and older we estimate the effort individually.
See Joomla update and migrationWhat changes now
- No more bug fixes: only versions that close security holes will appear.
- From 12 October 2027 there will be no security updates either – then Joomla 5 is where Joomla 4 is today.
- Your website keeps running as before. So you have time for the switch – about one year.
What Joomla 5 stood for
- At least PHP 8.1.
- Structured data following Schema.org built into Joomla.
- A compatibility plugin that keeps many extensions for Joomla 4 running.

The way to Joomla 6
From Joomla 5 the switch is an update in the backend, through Joomla's own update function from Joomla 5.4. Before that, the pre-update check shows which extensions are not ready for Joomla 6 yet. Check the PHP version as well: Joomla 6 needs at least PHP 8.3, 8.4 is recommended (Joomla manual).
Our advice: run the update on a copy, not on the live website – and not only in September 2027.
Rather not do the update yourself? We take care of it, from the first estimate to the switch, and usually answer on the next working day.
