Review: Joomla 6.2

Joomla 6.2 "Mwezi" of 13 October 2026 is the current version: TinyMCE with the Media Manager and a link picker, OAuth for sending mail and security flags for extension updates. For this review we installed Joomla 6.2.0 of 13 October 2026 and photographed it.

What was new in Joomla 6.2

According to the Joomla 6.2 announcement:

  • TinyMCE opens Joomla's Media Manager, has a unified link picker and a "Read More" button; it now uses Joomla's own text filters.
  • Separate CSS classes for image and figure, subcategory images in lists and blogs.
  • New options for the login module and deeper menus with sub-menus.
  • A new help page in the backend and search results with group names.
  • Extension updates can be flagged as security updates – from "None" to "Critical".
  • XOAuth2 for sending mail, for example with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace – without a stored SMTP password.

How we did it: Joomla 6.2.0 in the original package from downloads.joomla.org, locally in Docker with PHP 8.4 and MySQL 8.4, reachable only on our own machine, files unchanged, with the blog sample data. PHP error display is switched off so that notices about outdated functions do not cover the pictures.
