Tea, cakes and a captain’s house from 1812

The Teestube Tüdelpott tea room sits right on the Harle in the North Sea spa town of Carolinensiel, in a listed captain’s house built in 1812. Guests come for the traditional East Frisian tea ceremony, home-made cakes and tarts, ice cream and waffle boats. There is also a 16-hole mini golf course, a boat rental, holiday homes and an online shop with more than 60 kinds of tea.

tuedelpott.de shows all of this. At the end of 2024 the website was to move to a current technical basis – without changing the way it looks.

Same look, new technology

Our offer from December 2024 had a clear goal: rebuild tuedelpott.de as faithfully as possible with Joomla 5 and improve it where it counts – so that almost all relevant metrics end up better than before. To make that verifiable, we recorded the starting point with Google PageSpeed Insights, Pingdom Tools, Screaming Frog and the Firefox developer tools and presented a list of current and target values.

The familiar website, rebuilt as faithfully as possible with Joomla 5: pictures in fitting sizes for every device, no third-party servers on the home page – and looked after under a maintenance contract.

Rebuilt with Joomla 5 and YOOtheme Pro

We took over the design from the previous site and adjusted it only slightly – the blue, the teapot logo, the familiar sections from “Kiek Mol Rin” to the holiday homes. Everything is built with YOOtheme Pro, whose page builder is responsive from the ground up: every page adapts from a phone to a large screen.

We created the categories, menu items and articles and filled them with the existing texts and pictures. We also helped set up the web space.

Pictures that fit the device

A site that lives on cakes, tea and harbour views needs a lot of pictures. The new website prepares them automatically: from every original the system creates four additional versions in different sizes, and every device gets the one that fits.

Privacy by design

The design works without external resources – privacy is built in, not bolted on.

Pictures in four sizes

Every picture comes in versions that match the device.

Responsive

The page builder adapts every page to the screen size.

A familiar look

Design, logo and sections stayed – regular guests feel at home right away.

Measured: no third-party servers

Privacy by design was the principle from the start: the website was to work without external resources. Our measurement of the home page shows it still does – fonts, scripts and pictures come from the site’s own server, and before any consent the page sets just one cookie of its own.

100 %
of requests go to the site’s own server
1
cookie – the site’s own
24
requests on a phone

Measured on 9 October 2026: home page of tuedelpott.de, one run without cache, before any consent. On desktop it is 22 requests. The tea room supplies its photos itself.

Shop and maintenance from one source

The tea room runs its online shop on a platform of its own (Shopify), linked directly in the website’s menu. We supported its go-live as well.

Since the launch we have looked after tuedelpott.de under a maintenance contract: updates for Joomla and the extensions, backups, security checks, display checks and uptime monitoring. And when the site needs to grow, we lend a hand – in 2026, for example, with embedded widgets and an additional page.

The result

The Tüdelpott shows that a relaunch does not always need a new design. Guests find the site they know – with tea, cakes, mini golf and the captain’s house. Behind it, current technology is now at work: Joomla 5 with YOOtheme Pro, pictures in fitting sizes, no third-party servers on the home page and a maintenance contract that keeps the site up to date.
