Our new Joomla reference
GL Versicherungsmakler

GL Versicherungsmakler from Hamburg has specialised in professional legal guardians since 1995 and describes itself as the oldest specialist broker for this profession. Besides the guardians themselves, GL advises the people in their care, private individuals and companies.
That was exactly the task for the new website: four target groups with very different questions had to reach the insurance they are looking for without detours – from professional liability to supplementary dental cover. And GL wanted to add its content itself.
In July 2024 we wrote our offer based on a project outline: gl-versicherungsmakler.de would be rebuilt from scratch on Joomla 5. We worked on a separate development environment – the new site took shape in peace and only went online once GL had approved it. Today it already runs on Joomla 6.
The work was clearly divided: we set up the framework – categories, menu items and articles. GL then filled this structure with its own texts – nobody knows its insurance products better.
The technology is lean and mature: Joomla 5 as the foundation, YOOtheme Pro as the page builder, RSForm Pro for forms, EngageBox for pop-ups and Advanced Custom Fields for additional fields. Custom programming was explicitly not part of the plan – everything the site does comes from these five building blocks.
That keeps the website maintainable: fewer extensions mean fewer updates and less that can go wrong during an update.

The main navigation speaks to each target group directly: insurance for professional guardians, for people in care, for private individuals and for companies. Choose one of the four and you see all matching insurance products as tiles – each with its own icon and its own page.

For professional guardians alone there are 16 products, from retirement provision through professional liability and cyber insurance to financial loss liability. The “Jetzt Anfragen!” (enquire now) button waits at the top right, with a slim bar above it for news, team, group and contact.
Insurance has a language of its own. That is why a glossary was added in autumn 2025: terms such as “PHV – Mietsachschäden” (personal liability – damage to rented property) or “Cyber – Phishing-Angriffe” are explained there, and a row of initial letters filters the list with one click. At the same time we set up the news section, where GL publishes updates with a date and a preview.
Professional guardians, people in care, private individuals and companies each have their own way in.
Every insurance product has an icon and a page of its own.
Technical terms are explained and can be filtered by initial letter.
The “Jetzt Anfragen!” button sits clearly visible at the top right.
A relaunch must not cost visitors. For the move we therefore set up relaunch management for Google: up to 100 old addresses redirect to their current targets. Bookmarks, links from other websites and search results keep leading to the right page.
At the same time the website moved to a new web host. The legal notice and privacy policy were written together with GL using the eRecht24 agency package.
How light the site is shows in a measurement of the home page on 9 October 2026 – on a phone over a slow mobile network. HTML, CSS, JavaScript and fonts together come to about 250 KB:
The fonts come from the site’s own server, not from Google or any other provider. Before any consent the site sets exactly one cookie – its own, from gl-versicherungsmakler.de, not a third party’s.
Measured on 9 October 2026, one run without cache: phone with slow 4G and a CPU slowed down four times. The kilobytes count the technology only; GL supplies the pictures itself.
The new website is not our first joint project. The collaboration began in 2018 with a strategy meeting on the structure of a new GL website; in 2019 we conceived and built gl-spezial.de. In 2024 the rebuild of gl-versicherungsmakler.de started; in 2025 the glossary, the news section, the redirects and the move to the new host followed.
Today GL has a website that speaks to every target group directly, explains technical terms and has a home page that connects to no third-party server – and the team fills it with content itself.
