GIB-BLWG from Nuremberg

The GIB is a Bavarian educational institute. It works to improve communication between people with hearing loss and hearing people: with sign language courses, training, advice and information on interpreting assignments.

Its content was spread across two separate websites. Each needed its own maintenance, each worked a little differently – for visitors as well as for the team looking after them. And for an audience to whom accessibility is not a nice extra but a precondition, the new site had to offer much more.

First we merged both websites into a common development environment. Along the way we researched carefully: which extensions work together, what the structure needs to look like and how accessibility is best put into practice. We kept in regular touch with the GIB throughout the project.

Then the site got one consistent design and layout. Visitors find their way around the same everywhere, and the team maintains everything in one backend. Information on interpreting assignments is now a section of its own on giby.de.

One platform instead of two means: only one website to keep up to date, one way of working for everything and changes that are done faster. That lowers the costs of maintenance, development and consulting.

The project showed: merging two websites with careful planning and close coordination pays off twice – less work to run it and a site that reaches more people.
