Review: Joomla 3.7

Joomla 3.7 brought custom fields for articles, users and contacts and, according to its announcement, more than 700 improvements. For this review we installed Joomla 3.7.5 of 17 August 2017, the last version of this line, and photographed it.

What was new in Joomla 3.7

According to the Joomla 3.7 announcement:

  • Custom fields for articles, users and contacts, with 15 field types; extensions can use them too.
  • The "Multilingual Associations" component: translate content in one single interface.
  • Create a category, article and menu item in one step from the menu manager.
  • Custom menus for the backend.
  • New TinyMCE buttons for menu links and contacts, protection against accidentally uninstalling package parts, a flatter backend template.

How we did it: Joomla 3.7.5 in the original package from downloads.joomla.org, locally in Docker with PHP 7.4 and MySQL 5.7, reachable only on our own machine, files unchanged, with the "Learn Joomla" sample data. PHP error display is switched off so that notices about outdated functions do not cover the pictures.
