News about Joomla from the last 40 days
The last few weeks have been quite busy for us and so I haven't gotten around to writing anything on the blog. I now want to catch up on that and have something to report from many areas.
Joomla! is being reorganized!
As you can already read in this article, a structural proposal for Joomla was prepared, which has now been accepted with 19 votes to 9. This means that nothing stands in the way of restructuring. The vote was relatively close, as a single additional dissenting vote would have been enough and the project would have failed. In addition, there were and still are critical voices that do not agree with the new direction and so there are still heated discussions and some people have already drawn their conclusions and resigned.
Shadow sides
Even in the Joomla world there are sometimes bad things. Some are not published and so you usually don't notice. But what happened to Jessica Dunbar wasn't exactly praiseworthy. Because she helped develop the new structural proposal for Joomla and then voted no in the vote, she was heavily harassed by some in the Joomla scene. They wanted to get you to vote yes and not necessarily in a nice way! But Jessica Dunbar showed enough courage and didn't want to put up with it any longer and published the internal chat minutes. This triggered a moderate crisis. In the meantime, proceedings have been initiated to investigate the matter more closely.
Joomla is the perfect solution
AJoomla magazine article is about Joomla and what advantages it offers over a specially developed CMS. The broad developer base, good code structure, open source, costs and other points are addressed that speak against a dedicated CMS and in favor of Joomla.
Web catalog is working again
The web catalog was switched off some time ago and is now available again. At that time the web catalog was shut down because it was poorly programmed. In some cases, for example, an older extension was installed and other minor problems. But I don't yet know how the code was improved. As soon as there is news about this, I will report here.
Joomla 3.5?
Roberto Segura has now resigned as Release Leader and Roland Dalmuder has now taken his place. He is supported by George Wilson. As a result of the change, changes have also been made to the release plans of Joomla 3.5. This time there will only be two innovations in order to keep the scope small and thus keep the number of bug fixes to a minimum. The two new features include the new router from Hannes Papenberg and the email notification for Joomla updates from Nic Dionysopoulos. The Production Leadership Team is also aware of the relevance of making changes to the template system. This specifically refers to the form fields for front-end processing.
Robert Deutz goes, Tobias Zulauf comes
Unfortunately, Robert Deutz is leaving the Production Leadership Team. He will leave a big gap. Tobias Zulauf joins the BugSquadTeam as co-coordinator. Tobias Zulauf is also part of the Joomla-Bugs.de team and so the circle closes!
Joomla DE Hangout #5 - Security
Once again the legendary Joomla De Hangout, this time with the theme of security. Of course, alongside David Jardin, who organized the whole thing, Viktor Vogel, Thomas Kahl, Stefan Wendhausen, Marc Widmann and Frank Delventhal took part. Once again, the topic of safety was brought up with a lot of humor and understanding. The topic is relatively free of Joomla, so the statements would also apply to other CMS. The attack vectors and how you can protect yourself from them were discussed. Then it was also explained how to restore a hacked site. In addition to these topics, attention was also drawn to the legal aspects and how and why hacks are such a widespread topic. Discussions about Joomla 4
There is nothing tangible yet. However, the first discussions begin and the first ideas are developed. These are all of a complex, technical nature. Since I haven't looked into this topic in depth yet, I can't say much yet. As already written in an older article, Michael Babker has created a code base on github called Joomla Next and is trying out some of his ideas there. Additionally, in a series of blog posts, Nic Dionysopoulos has reflected on Joomla! Future made - well worth reading! Link: http://www.dionysopoulos.me/
