JoomlaDay™ 2014 in Cologne

This year's Joomla community meeting in Cologne brought together 48 lectures, 34 speakers, 11 sponsors and numerous Joomla! enthusiasts. As in previous years, the meeting offered a platform for meeting old friends and making new contacts.

The lectures were characterized by their good preparation and a variety of topics. They covered areas such as SEO, programming, configuration and design in Joomla, as well as specific topics such as e-commerce law. It was particularly enriching to have the opportunity to meet people in person that you previously only knew through social media or forums. The professional organization by the JoomlaDay team deserves special recognition.

We are already looking forward to the next JoomlaDay meeting in Germany and hope that you will take advantage of this excellent opportunity to become part of the Joomla! community.

Report: Pizza, Bugs & Fun Event at YooTheme in Hamburg 2024

Yesterday I was at the YooTheme office in Hamburg to take part in the "Pizza, Bugs & Fun" event. The main goal was to put the alpha version of Joomla 5.1 through its paces, and I can honestly say that together we really achieved something.

The YooTheme team opened their office for us and took over the organization of this year's PBF in Hamburg - really great of you! Together with other people who also use and develop Joomla, we dug through new features and tested pull requests everywhere. It was great to see how well the mix of Joomla newbies and old hands worked.

I also took the opportunity to stroll around the area a bit, right next to the Hafencity in Hamburg, where everything is bursting with cool architecture and culture. I've captured a few impressions of it in the gallery below. Back in the office, the food that made Joomla jump got us fit again to continue with the sessions.

At the end of the day, we had not only found and fixed a few bugs, but we had also made the network in our community even closer. The whole thing at YooTheme was a really good change, and at the same time we ate pizza, hunted bugs and had fun. PBF stop!

Visited JUG's

Joomla User Groups (JUGs) are a central element of the Joomla community, bringing together developers, designers, administrators and users of this versatile content management system worldwide. With a regulars' table character, these meetings offer a casual atmosphere in which members can exchange knowledge, find support in solving problems and find out about the latest developments in the Joomla world. In addition to the informal exchange, some JUG meetings also offer special lectures and presentations that provide deeper insights into specific subject areas.

The JUG scene is particularly active in Germany, with a total of 13 groups in cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Essen, Frankfurt, Cologne, Augsburg, Freiburg, Fulda, Lübeck, Nuremberg, Rhine-Neckar and at the Kleiner Möhne Lake. This wide geographical spread allows Joomla users from different regions to attend the meetings and become part of the vibrant community. Here you can find all JUG's in Germany!

As the founder of JUG Hamburg, I have made it my mission to visit other JUGs to get an impression of their activities and the atmosphere that prevails there. My visits to JUG Sauerland, JUG Cologne and JUG im Pott were consistently positive. I was warmly welcomed everywhere and met friendly people who shared a common passion for Joomla. These visits gave me the opportunity not only to learn from others, but also to contribute my own knowledge and experiences and give back to the community.

The experiences and impressions I gained on these trips are very valuable to me and I look forward to visiting more JUGs in the future. My next goal is to visit the JUG Hamburg again and, if my schedule allows, to also visit the JUG Cologne again. I'm looking forward to meeting old friends again and getting to know new faces. The JUG meetings are an excellent opportunity to network, learn and actively shape the Joomla community. I look forward to the next meetings and meeting even more members of this great community!

JandBeyond follow-up report

JandBeyond is an annual highlight for the Joomla! community worldwide. Over three days, the meeting offers a platform for lectures, networking and exchange with like-minded people. It's a special opportunity to meet in person some of the leading developers of Joomla and popular extensions such as Akeeba Backup, Seblod and JCE. The event is organized by J and Beyond eV, who have ensured a smooth event in previous years.

A total of 50 lectures covered topics for designers, integrators, developers and academics. The keynote speakers offered inspiring insights that encouraged thinking outside the box. In addition, the small groups formed on site offered the opportunity to actively work on various projects and thus contribute directly to the development of Joomla.

Looking back, it was an impressive three days near Frankfurt. A visit to JandBeyond is highly recommended for anyone who works with Joomla professionally. It is a unique opportunity to be part of a vibrant community and to develop personally and professionally.
